Text messaging

Texts from your church, only when you ask.

Churches use HoW to text people who have asked for texts: event reminders, schedule changes, volunteer requests, and church news. Every text names the church that sent it and ends with "Reply STOP to opt out".

HoW is run by DCX Logic LLC.

How people sign up

Nobody gets a text without saying yes first. There are two ways to say yes:

  1. Online. Ticking the text-message box on a church's HoW form, such as its "Connect" or sign-up form. The box is never ticked in advance, and the disclosure sits right under it.
  2. On paper or in person. Ticking the same box on a church's printed connection card, which carries the same words, or telling a member of staff. Staff record who agreed, when, and how, and HoW keeps that record.

Saying yes is never a condition of giving, buying, registering, or belonging.

Example: a church's sign-up form

This is what the text-message box looks like on a church's form. This example does not send anything.

Grace Community Church

Hi Ann, the youth retreat leaves Friday at 6pm from the north lot. Bring a sleeping bag!Grace Community Church: Reply STOP to opt out

How often depends on what a person signed up for. Message and data rates may apply.

Pilot testing

Before churches use HoW, DCX Logic tests it with its own staff and invited pilot testers. Those texts come from DCX Logic HoW Test and follow every rule on this page. Testers sign up on the pilot's own page by ticking the same unticked box, with the same disclosure beside it. Texts are typically 1 to 8 a month,STOP and HELP work, and nothing is sent to the public.
